How to send photos

Sometimes it is useful to see photographs of an instrument or bow so we can decide how best to help you. Photographing an instrument isn't too difficult, but there are certain shots we need to be able to assess the instrument. Most modern smartphones have cameras that give plenty of detail. The photos don't need to be perfect! They are to allow us to make an initial assessment as to whether we would like to see the instrument or bow in person.

Before sending please make sure that all images are in focus and can be zoomed in on. All stamps, brands, and labels and should be in clear focus, and documents should ideally be scanned. It is much better for us rather receive several emails with high-resolution images than a single email with compressed ones. Alternatively, services like WeTransfer offer a free method of sending large files.

The easiest way get good shots is to hold your instrument in front of a plain wall or curtain.Try to fill the frame of the photo with the instrument. On a smartphone, don't worry about zooming in. Don't worry about a little bit of glare - it can actually give us a good idea of the shape of the arching!

How to take photos.jpg

For instruments, we need square-on photos of the front, the back, the sides, the scroll, and the endpin

For Bows, we need side-on photos of the player side of the frog and the handle, and the tip. Try to make sure that any stamps are clear and legible. If there are any other markings, details, damage or repairs, photos of these can also be very useful.
